ADHD(Yes, I know it is not a learning disability but often associated with learning disabilities.)

An Insider’s Look at ADHD: I am not expert on ADHD however I do have a degree in special education and over 10 years experience teaching. So, why I do I think I’m qualified to talk about ADHD? Is ADHD Real?: Is ADHD real, or is it merely a school-related problem? This is a question that many experts disagree about. Some claim that ADHD is merely an attempt by educators to find something to blame for their own shortcomings, or it is due to a lack of discipline by parents. ADHD is real. It is not due to a lack of discipline or some scam concocted by educators. It is a real disorder. More …

Tips for Dealing with ADHD : ADHD and how to handle it are often a hot topic. Some claim that it is not a real condition but rather a reaction to our educational system. To further complicate the matter dysgraphia is more than just messy or illegible handwriting. More …

DYSLEXIA

Dyslexia: An Overview : The International Dyslexia Association defines dyslexia as: “Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.” (1) Literally dyslexia means poor language. It comes from the Greek dys meaning poor and lexia meaning language.(2) Dyslexia is the most common reading cause of reading problems. Reflections on the Remote Control: The Learn Button: The other day I was looking at my remote control and noticed that a learn button. This got my brain to going. Thinking would not it be easier if we just had a learn button to learn new things or even better children had a learn button. How easy would teaching be if you could just put a button and impart knowledge? Of course, my husband chimed in that they also need a mute and rewind buttons as well but that is for another article. All of this got me thinking about how children actually learn. Discovering your child’s learning style is one of the best ways to improve academic success. More …

Christ Centered Curriculum

Christ Centered Curriculum stands apart from other curriculum providers because it is God-centered rather than child-centered. For example, did you know that all four mathematical operations are recorded in the Genesis 1-2 creation account? God made a day and he divided it into evening and morning. He made one day; then He added something to it. He commanded animals to multiply upon the earth, adding numbers of "like things" to His creation. He subtracted a rib from Adam; then He added another human, Eve. Mathematically, addition is the basis of all other operations, so we start there.
